However, there is no reason to be completely pessimistic. In addition to a clear understanding of the challenges of an ageing society, young peo- ple also understand that the problem does not lie within the older peo- ple themselves, nor is it up to them to solve it. Relatively few of them are inclined to the view that older people should reduce their demands in favour of the well-being of young people. In this way, they also clearly show a shift away from the seeming inevitability of conflict between the generations, which is often encouraged by the marketing moves of political actors who feed their support from the large voting pool of re- tirees.
